A move from traditional mail order plant business to a powerful e-commerce operator driving impressive year-on-year growth sales

Avon Bulbs is a family-owned company based in Somerset which has been operating for over 25 years. The business supplies a fantastic range of flower bulbs and plants, in the biggest sizes available, grown in their nursery in Somerset and they deliver to anywhere in Great Britain or the Channel Islands. Avon Bulbs also has an enviable reputation in their industry, having won at every RHS Chelsea Flower Shows in the last 25 years and acquired a total of 30 Chelsea Gold medals.

Being that the company started as a traditional mail order business with a loyal customer base audience, their previous website and e-commerce shop was very basic and lacked the capabilities to scale with the business. Their Content Management system was also limited, so they needed a digital partner who could build a functional system around their business which would grow with them.

Webselect first started work with Avon Bulbs eight years ago, developing a new website and online shop, to accompany their successful physical subscriber catalogue, which is issued twice a year. The system was stable, incorporated CMS which was easy to use and looked professional and engaging, with facilities to offer outstanding aftercare, support and advice to customers. We customised the e-commerce solution on our Select Commerce platform, building a front end site supported by a full CMS. We also integrated a number of services including Analytics, Select Mailer, our own Email management product and also Nice Payments, our own Card payment brokerage with our partners Modern Business World, to save Avon Bulbs thousands a year in card payment fees.

Their new website has a clean, bright style with templated web page design appropriate to the brand's target market and audience and since the launch of their new site, they have seen 794% increase in online sales.

Our business is very seasonal, we have two main points in the year for shipping orders. An additional complication is that we are dealing with live products and products with a shelf life. We needed an e-commerce site and would be available to take orders all year and be capable of dealing with seasonal peaks in demand, in orders and in payments and the service from Webselect absolutely does this and the team are great to deal with.
