Some amazing figures from BBC's iPlayer

The BBC have released some truly incredible figures from their iPlayer service in the month of October 2009. The iPlayer is the BBC's multimedia viewer and allows you to watch TV programmes, listen to radio broadcasts and more. But bear in mind, only UK viewers can use this service, this makes these figures even more amazing.

These figures emphasis just how the Internet has grown up. In just one month.....

  • The iPlayer was used 70 million times (More than once for every UK resident)
  • iPhones accounted for 5 million views
  • The most viewed show was Question Time with nearly 1 million views
  • The amount of data transferred over the web by iPlayer was 7 Petabytes (the equivalent of 11 million DVD's)
  • Only 3% of users downloaded programmes, 97% watched them online.
